How’s My New Year’s Eve Going?: Ask Abel Tesfaye

I finally cracked open the Weeknd’s final installment in his 2011 trilogy of albums about loneliness (among many, many other themes).  Echoes of Silence is awesome, and it was the perfect way to end 2011.  The year that the mixtape…er free albums were elevated to a near artform, and the year that Pop music saved my life.

Download Echoes of Silence officially here.

Ooooooweee!! The-Dream is giving us more tunes. Did you know about this?  I just found out today when surfing for ‘Echoes Of Silence’ cover art.
P.S. I saw this man on the subway scrolling through his iTunes I rolled my eyes (yeah…he was that kinda lookin’-like-he-listens-to-Vampire Weekend muthafuka, but then he got to Drake and The Dream.  I got really excited cuz boys don’t like either…usually.  But then I thought he can’t even spell.  “The Dream” is what we are living.  “The-Dream” is Terius Nash.  P.S. 1977 is by Terius Nash (not The-Dream because of contractual obligations).  Then, I thought who the F#@K! cares he is listening to The-Dream even if his annotation isn’t correct, and he probably doesn’t care.  Oh, yeah! That was a week ago.
I wonder if this is his songs about Nikki (from LoveHate and Love King) meaning we will get Nikki: The Chronicles for Christmas?!

What did I do this weekend?  I drove to Montréal.  Besides doing very Montréal-y things I got danced by Kid Sister.  Yup, she pulled me on stage twice, and I did a pretty good job (for leaving my freakum dress at the cleaners) at least I did a great job in my head.  The crowd loved it—although, I have a more than sneaky suspicion that they were loving Kid Sister.  But I asked my hommie how I did, and she said you brought the Philly/BK love.  So, I must’ve been okay, and Kid Sister’s hommie, the very cute DJ Willy Joy, came back out and told me after their set (while the AWESOME Shaydakiss did some of her best work; she is somewhere between those boy DJs who school you with song-less music and the dirty pawtee DJs like me) “you killed it”.  I gushed, “you too”.  Oh, yeah, and if that wasn’t enough to make it a perfect evening.  We heard The Weeknd being played on Montréal radio.  HI’YAH!!! TAKE THAT NYC!!  (NYC’s problem is that it senselessly just tones itself down, I’m just sayin’).

Ooowweeeee!!  Looks like we have another great album from The Weeknd this week.  It’s called Thursday.  Maybe because Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Rebecca Black all have dibs on Friday.  Yesterday the Weeknd unleashed more gorgeous, epic songs about copious drug use, lonely sex, unrequited love, beautiful, tragic, flawed people, self-destruction, spiraling out-of-control, and being FUCKING miserable…er, it’s my life in a nutshell (well, except for the drug use).  If you wanna keep the sad high for a few more day just throw this onto your playlist of Drake and The-Dream.  Plus, you can grind to these sexy incredibly painful songs.
P.S. You can pick up HouseOfBalloons, too, just by clicking on the link.
