It’s Mary J.’s Birthday!!!

It was totally meant to be. I’ve been listening to ‘My Life II’ since last weekend eventhough, I bought it the week it dropped. Well, last night I went to Other Music and found ‘My Life’ in the used section…and I was compelled to buy it cuz well, DUH!

Today, I’ve been jamming to it hoping Mary’s pain can help soothe my tortured soul; then, I checked wiki to count Mary J.’s albums over the last 20 years, and I learned today is her Birthday.

Happy Birthday Miss Blige. Here’s hoping My Life can be drama-free, too. Thank you for leading the way to a better existence.

How’s My New Year’s Eve Going?: Ask Abel Tesfaye

I finally cracked open the Weeknd’s final installment in his 2011 trilogy of albums about loneliness (among many, many other themes).  Echoes of Silence is awesome, and it was the perfect way to end 2011.  The year that the mixtape…er free albums were elevated to a near artform, and the year that Pop music saved my life.

Download Echoes of Silence officially here.

My friend is gonna get me in tonight.  Maybe I’ll see some of y’alls there.  I can’t even imagine what the crowd will be like, but I will be dancin’ my A$$ off…DRUG-FREE.  I hope they play some Katy B and Nero.

Thank God Loretta Lynn Is Alright! -

Over the weekend, Saturday night to be exact, I was in a cab coming home from the failure of the Fool’s Gold party; when, I read that Loretta Lynn had been admitted to the hospital for pneumonia.  But today she was released.

The original statement issued read “Around 1:30 AM Saturday morning, Loretta awoke on her tour bus complaining that she was having a hard time breathing. They admitted her into a Bowling Green, Kentucky hospital where she was treated over the weekend for the beginning stages of bacterial pneumonia.”  It has been confirmed that she has returned home to Hurricane Mills, Tennessee and is still recovering.  Miss Loretta said, “It was one scary night… But I am feeling better and just gonna take it easy for a couple of weeks.”

I love you Loretta.  You are in my prayers and thoughts.  I wish you a full-recovery.

Ooooooweee!! The-Dream is giving us more tunes. Did you know about this?  I just found out today when surfing for ‘Echoes Of Silence’ cover art.
P.S. I saw this man on the subway scrolling through his iTunes I rolled my eyes (yeah…he was that kinda lookin’-like-he-listens-to-Vampire Weekend muthafuka, but then he got to Drake and The Dream.  I got really excited cuz boys don’t like either…usually.  But then I thought he can’t even spell.  “The Dream” is what we are living.  “The-Dream” is Terius Nash.  P.S. 1977 is by Terius Nash (not The-Dream because of contractual obligations).  Then, I thought who the F#@K! cares he is listening to The-Dream even if his annotation isn’t correct, and he probably doesn’t care.  Oh, yeah! That was a week ago.
I wonder if this is his songs about Nikki (from LoveHate and Love King) meaning we will get Nikki: The Chronicles for Christmas?!

I know what I’m getting!!!  It’s funny.  Just this week when I was buying a bunch of DVDs on Warner Archive I thought, “Why isn’t Bombshell on DVD?”  Now it is gonna be, and I love that it was announced today, and we only have to wait until 10/25 not MONTHS in advance.  Until the only films of Jean’s that were on DVD were Hell’s Angels, Red-Headed Woman, Platinum Blonde, Wife Vs. Secretary, The Public Enemy, China Seas, Dinner at Eight, and Libeled Lady.
Celebrate the wonderful life of this super talented mega-star who died in tragedy at the height of her career, beauty at just the age of 26, but don’t read her life backwards love her, and the seven years / 22 films she made fully credited, staring roles.
These are the films; some of Harlow’s very best work and descriptions provided by DVDs Worth Watching:
Bombshell (1933) — An early look behind-the-scenes of Hollywood, with Harlow playing a character much like herself. She wants to quit movies, but her deadbeat family and go-getter press agent won’t let her.
The Girl From Missouri (1934) — Similar in plot to Red-Headed Woman (see below) but made after the Code, so much emphasis is placed on how Harlow looks like a tramp but she’s still a “good girl”.
Reckless (1935) — Inspired by a real-life scandal involving a torch singer, this movie also had unpleasant similarities to the suicide of Harlow’s second husband. She stars with William Powell, whom she was also involved with.
Riffraff (1935) — I don’t care for this one, too downbeat. Co-stars Spencer Tracy.
Suzy (1936) — Co-starring Cary Grant and Franchot Tone in a love triangle of people torn apart by World War I and mistaken reports of a spouse’s death.
Personal Property (1937) — Timely, as the story of a widow at risk of having everything repossessed, and I appreciate co-star Robert Taylor, but not really the right role for Harlow.
Saratoga (1937) — Harlow’s final movie, with frequent co-star Clark Gable. She died during filming and several of her scenes were played by a double.
I guess, they are probably waiting to make another set with Red Dust, and the early films that a lotta people don’t like that get a bad rap like Hold Your Man, Iron Man, The Beast of the City, and Goldie (all of these were important in continuation of “the build up” of her career after Hell’s Angels, and they were key in defining her image).
Good Night Jean!  I wish you would have lived to be 100, but now a whole new generation prepares to love you, too.

“Wild Man” the lead single from Kate Bush’s new album 50 Words For Snow is on-sale NOW!!!  So get a part-time job, dig-in the couch cushions while you wait at the dentist office, or maybe just get a refund on all your returned beer bottles just find a way to support Ms. Kate Bush.  Maybe we’ll hear it on the radio; more likely I’ll hear about it being played on the BBC Radio 2.  Maybe it’ll be a mega-iTunes hit.
Thank you Kate for making us better people and for the world being a better place.

Drizzy Is So Sweet!

Drake didn’t want us to worry when his album wouldn’t be released on 10/24.  He left this statement on his OVO.

The new date for Take Care is November 15th, 2011. I managed to create this album in my hometown of Toronto and the thoughts and stories I wanted to get across just became so clear. It truly felt like when I was here 3 years ago making So Far Gone. So I have completed 19 songs (17 on physical and 2 on bonus), and have run into a roadblock of clearing 3 samples in time to make the October 24th date. My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it. The choice was clear as day for me. November 15th you will get Take Care the exact way I created it with no trimmings. This music means too much to me to get attached to dates and I do apologize for the delay but I promise that it is only for the benefit of our experience together. Club Paradise Tour will also be moved to when students are back from the Christmas/New Year break so that I can get to more schools. New dates will be released in the next week…see you all soon.
